" Summer 2019 marked one of the most memorable basketball journeys I ever made. I embarked on a plane to Mogadishu, Somalia's capital, with my teammates from Giants of Africa for a basketball clinic. From the sky, the coast looked amazing, but landing on the airport tarmac brought us to reality, we were entering into a war zone. Armed forces drove us to the Elman Foundation, where a group of women was waiting to meet us and, most importantly, work on their game. Basketball is not common out there, especially for women; sports are prohibited. The ball pictured here was the main basketball used by these women before our arrival, this bright orange lost in the blue Somalian sea, a symbol of hope for these souls finding joy and relief in the game they love. "
